SCRATCH REMOVAL

The right response to a scratch depends on which layers of the finish it has affected. Fleury's assesses scratched paint at both shops and explains whether finish correction, refinishing or related body repair should be considered.

Distinguish the mark from the damage

A scratch may look white against dark paint without revealing how deep it is. The shop looks at the affected finish and surrounding condition to distinguish surface marking, transferred material and damage that reaches deeper layers.

Tell us when it happened, what contacted the vehicle if known and whether anyone has already attempted to correct it. Earlier touch-up or abrasive work can affect what is now visible and what repair choices remain suitable.

Match the approach to the depth

Some shallow marks may be considered for finish correction, depending on the condition and remaining finish. A deeper scratch that removes color or exposes underlying material may require paint repair rather than surface correction alone.

A gouge or crease can also involve the panel itself. In that case, body repair may belong in the plan before refinishing. Ask which part of the proposed work addresses the surface and which addresses damage beneath it.

Define which areas are included

A long scratch can cross a door, fender and trim, each with different materials or finishes. Show the full length of the damage so the estimate does not focus only on the most noticeable section.

Mention nearby chips, faded areas or older scratches you also want assessed. We can discuss them separately and explain the proposed paint boundaries; agreeing on the included areas is more useful than assuming every visible mark is covered.

QUESTIONS ABOUT
SCRATCH REMOVAL.

Can every scratch be polished out?

No. Surface correction is limited by damage depth and finish condition. A scratch through the color or into the panel needs a different assessment and may require refinishing or body repair.

Does a scratch across two panels count as one repair area?

The affected panels and materials need individual assessment. We explain which areas and operations are included so you can understand the proposed scope, even when one incident caused the entire scratch.
