Small pieces can hide related damage
A molding that has lifted away from a door may have damaged clips, a bent mounting area or an affected panel beneath it. Scraped cladding can also conceal damage at its edges. Assessment considers how the piece attaches, not just the mark on its outer surface.
Tell us which trim is loose, missing, cracked or scraped and whether the underlying panel was also hit. If a piece came off during the collision, keep it available for the assessment. Avoid assuming that it can be reused until its condition and attachments have been checked.
Choose a finish and fit that suit the part
Painted moldings, textured plastic, bright trim and other exterior finishes do not all respond to the same repair method. The type of material and extent of damage help determine whether repair is practical or a replacement piece is the better option for the proposed work.
We also consider the attachment parts and nearby finish. A replacement may need preparation or refinishing, while some trim is supplied with its finished surface. Availability and differences between the damaged part and a proposed replacement should be discussed before the estimate is approved.
Include trim in the complete estimate
Trim work often accompanies door, fender or bumper repairs. Ask which moldings and attachment pieces are included, whether any existing pieces can be reused and how refinishing is addressed. A clear parts list helps distinguish the visible body repair from the smaller components needed to finish it.
Contact either shop with your vehicle details and a few photos of the affected area. We can explain what needs an in-person inspection and whether covered damage may change the estimate. Loose or protruding trim should be discussed before you drive the vehicle to the shop.
